Speaker Bookings
If you would like to inquire about arranging a speaking engagement for your classroom or organization, please send an email to Leigh McLellan, leigh@sfspeakersbureau.org, at least three weeks in advance. Include:
dates/times you would prefer,
name of the school/venue and room number,
contact phone numbers,
exact address, cross-streets, driving and transit directions,
number and demographics of the students/audience,
and all important information about the group.
Note: It is important that we be in direct contact with the teacher/responsible adult who will be present in the classroom at all times during the presentation.
We look forward to speaking with you. We will do everything we can to make sure we connect your group with the most effective speakers possible!
Our services are free to SFUSD schools. Other businesses, institutions, colleges, universities, and private schools are encouraged (but not required) to contribute an honorarium of $100 to $500, if possible. Checks should be made out to the "San Francisco LGBT Community Center" and mailed to Leigh McLellan, PO Box 22095, San Francisco, CA 94122. For questions, contact Leigh McLellan at leigh@sfspeakersbureau.org.
We are currently sponsored by the Youth Program at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center and are approved by the San Francisco Unified School District. The presentations are structured to be age-appropriate and operate according to specific SFUSD guidelines. We are approved to speak to elementary school classes from 4th grade up as part of SFUSD’s Health and Family Life Program. Through classroom education, we attempt to prevent hate and intolerance before it has a chance to take root.
Since 1978, the Speakers Bureau has been speaking at elementary, middle, and high schools in the San Francisco Unified School District, at Bay Area colleges and universities, and professional and community groups. By providing students with the opportunity (often their first) to meet and ask questions of openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, we allow them to question values, dispel myths, destroy stereotypes, and explore feelings.
